Portugal head coach, Jorge Jesus, has insisted that he has no regrets over how he handled his fallout with Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo left the national team camp in October after Jesus left him on the bench for the entire 90 minutes of a Nations League clash with Croatia.
The 41-year-old was eventually suspended and fined by the Portugal Football Federation, PFF.
And although Ronaldo was eligible for Portugal’s matches in November, he decided to announce his retirement from international football on Thursday.
Jesus was asked about how his relationship with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner fell apart.
He said: “I wouldn’t change anything, absolutely nothing.
“I made a decision as a coach, putting the interests of my team and the Portuguese national team first.
“I’m convinced that I didn’t do anything to cause what happened.”
