Watch: Nick Cannon Clarifies Daughter Monroe’s Comment About Having Only One Sibling
Nick Cannon is setting the record straight.
After a comment made by Nick’s 15-year-old daughter Monroe—whom Nick shares, along with Monroe’s twin Moroccan, with his ex Mariah Carey—claiming she has only one brother went viral, Nick, who is dad to 12 children in total, explained her intention behind the remark.
“It’s so funny because the world thought that it was about a conversation that was something that it wasn’t,” the Wild ‘n Out host told Shannon Sharpe on the April 29 episode of the Club Shay Shaypodcast. “It was really about 14-year-olds talking.”
In November 2025, Monroe raised eyebrows when she wrote on her Instagram Story, “Clearing something up guys, I only have ONE brother who is @moroccan.cannon. I do have other half siblings from my dad but they are all many many years younger than me!”
While the comment caused confusion at the time due to the existence of Monroe and Moroccan’s many younger half siblings, Nick has now added further context to the remark. As it turns out, there had been teenagers online claiming to be Monroe and Moroccan’s siblings.
“So my daughter wanted to clear it up,” he explained, “and be like, ‘I only have one brother,’ like literally in her age group.”
While Monroe and Moroccan are the only children from Nick’s marriage to Mariah, he is also dad to 10 other kids, including Golden “Sagon,” 9, Powerful Queen, 5, and Rise Messiah, 3, with Brittany Bell;twins Zion Mixolydian and Zillion Heir, 4, and Beautiful Zeppelin, 3, with Abby De La Rosa; Legendary Love, 3, with Bre Tiesi; Onyx Ice, 3, with LaNisha Cole; and Halo Marie, 3, with Alyssa Scott. He and Alyssa also shared son Zen, who died in 2021 at 5 months old from brain cancer.
In reality, Monroe and Moroccan have a close relationship with their younger sibs, spending quality time with some of them over the holidays. As such, Monroe was understandably upset when her remarks went viral.
“The world jumped in on some teenage gossip conversation and tried to turn it into something else,” Nick continued on Club Shay Shay. “And then that upset my daughter. So she was like, ‘I didn’t mean that. I said my dad has other kids.’”
Thankfully, the former America’s Got Talent host knows a thing or two about navigating life in the spotlight, and he imparted some social media wisdom onto his daughter.
“I was like, ‘Monroe, you don’t have to explain yourself to anybody,’” he concluded. “‘But let this be a lesson that you got to be very careful what you say on social media. People will take something very small and blow it up into something that you don’t have control over anymore.’”
