Watch: Detroit Lions Coach Shares Update on Jack Campbell After Neck Injury
Jack Campbell is calling a huddle of his own.
Three days after the Detroit Lions linebacker suffered an immobilizing neck injury and was carried off the field on a stretcher, he broke his silence to deliver a positive update.
“I’m incredibly encouraged by the progress I’ve made in such a short period of time,” Campbell shared in a statement to the Lions’ Instagram Nov. 4. “I have full movement in my lower body, and I’m continuing to make progress with movement in my upper body.”
Still, the 26-year-old added, “I know there’s still work ahead, but I remain very optimistic. I’m taking things one day at a time, staying positive, and focusing on getting better.”
Since sustaining the injury during the fourth quarter of the team’s 19-15 triumph over the Minnesota Vikings—which left him lying face down on the field, seemingly unable to move at the time—Campbell noted he’s been leaning on his faith in God.
“I know He has a plan for me, and I trust in that plan,” the athlete continued. “I know there may be challenges ahead, but with my faith, my family, and so many people in my corner, I know we’ll get through this.”
Amid his recovery, the University of Iowa alum also emphasized how grateful he and his family—including his wife Megan and their 4-month-old sonCooper—are for the “overwhelming” support they’ve received from fans.
Plus, Campbell gave a special shoutout to the medical staff who have treated him.

“I especially want to thank the athletic trainers and medical personnel who responded and cared for me on the field,” he wrote. “I know those were difficult moments, and I’m incredibly grateful for the professionalism, compassion, and care you showed me. The way you handled everything and looked after me when I needed it most is something I’ll never forget.”
As the NFL star put it, “From the bottom of my heart, thank you.”
While sharing that he plans to “approach this challenge” with the “toughness, resilience and grit” that Detroit is built upon, Campbell turned his focus to his team.
“To my teammates, coaches, and everyone in the Lions organization, I want you to know how much I love and appreciate you,” he shared. “This team is a family to me, and the way everyone has been there for me means everything. I’m proud to be a Detroit Lion and couldn’t ask to be surrounded by a better group of people.”
