Everybody already has the Indianapolis Colts figured out … or, at least they think they do.
In these NFL power rankings entering the 2026 season, their range is narrow:

Third in the AFC South.

19th at best and 23rd at worst.
-
Starters remaining healthy is mandatory for a chance to make the playoffs.
-
Somebody from the NFC West is the league’s best team.
The Colts start the season at home against the Baltimore Ravens.
“Indy’s nine-figure investment in Alec Pierce came with immediate concerns when the receiver spent most of August on the PUP list following ankle surgery. He’s since practiced fully, but it’s fair to wonder how much the Colts can count on him against the Ravens in Week 1. Keenan Allen is expected to play in the opener despite his recent arrest on drunken driving charges, but expect plenty of work for Josh Downs and reliance on Jonathan Taylor in an offense that isn’t exactly fully equipped to start the season.”

“Injuries cost the Colts an opportunity to be the surprise team of 2025, and now they look destined to spend another season hovering around .500 in the hope that they can sneak into the playoffs as the seventh seed. It is imperative that the Colts get off to a good start to improve their chances. But they’ll be facing off against Baltimore, Kansas City, and Houston to start the season.”
Projected win total by Austin Mock: 8.3
“Daniel Jones has checked all the boxes after tearing his right Achilles, and the Colts were 8-2 before his injury last season. Still, trepidation remains. It’s one thing to look good in practice coming off an injury, and it’s another to do it in game action. We’re in wait-and-see mode with this team.”

“The talent found on Indianapolis’ roster is obvious, but the squad’s depth is thin. If the Colts are going to play like the team that showed up during the first half of last season, its top players must remain on the field.”
“They desperately need Daniel Jones and Jonathan Taylor to stay healthy.”
