If there is one thing that Vancouver music festival fans can’t get enough of, it’s dance-heavy EDM. So it makes sense that Public Disco is announcing a new all-day underground electronic music festival in North Vancouver this fall.

The Vancouver-based non-profit organization has been mounting dance music events in unconventional urban locales for the past decade all around the Lower Mainland and beyond. With the goal of invigorating community-driven cultural events through free and low-barrier pricing of ticketed events, Public Disco has also built a solid reputation for giving people top-tier talent at a fair price.

The new festival is in North Van’s popular arts and cultural hub at the Shipyards.

“Public Disco has always been about transformation and the Shipyards District is a brilliant example of that same spirit, a post-industrial waterfront reimagined as one of the region’s favourite gathering spaces,” says Public Disco executive director Nickolas Collinet. “This fall, we’re bringing artists who have helped shape and sustain house music culture to a site that was built to be reclaimed by the public. We can’t wait to see it come alive.”

The event will feature three separate spaces.

An open-air main stage boasts an industrial vibe and harbour views under the night sky. The Pipe Shop Venue will include an all-vinyl listening room with curated visual art projections. The Shipbuilders’ Square: Food Market will feature a variety of culinary delights to keep you dancing.

The all-vinyl listening lounge powered by Lobe Studio’s spatial sound system features local DJs Scott W, Kozue, Christa Belle and Serena S. Live visuals in the lounge are supplied by artists Toi Whakairo, clara, Laine Butler and the space curator, ephemeral objects.
