The New Orleans Saints are looking for ways to be competitive this season, and it appeared like they made the additions to do so. Week 1 saw the team lose in overtime on the road against the Detroit Lions 31-30, but the team looked a lot better than many were expecting. That was without the team having a five-time Pro Bowler on the field with them. Let’s take a closer look at who it is and what the recent news means for the New Orleans Saints going forward.

During his press conference on Wednesday ahead of their Week 2 game against the Baltimore Ravens, New Orleans Saints coach Kellen Moore brought some positive news with him. He mentioned that running back Alvin Kamara, who missed Week 1 due to a knee injury, is expected to be available for this week’s game.

The 31-year-old running back is expected to be a good contributor for the New Orleans Saints this season. With the addition of Travis Etienne this offseason, the running game for the team is expected to be more of a committee than forcing Kamara to be a bell-cow. Last season, Kamara was limited to 11 games and finished with 131 rushing attempts for 471 yards (3.6 yards per carry) with one rushing touchdown as well as 33 receptions on 39 targets for 186 yards (5.6 yards per catch) without a receiving touchdown.
Kamara sprained his MCL on Aug. 18 during a joint practice with the Dallas Cowboys. He was able to return to practice last week and Moore even mentioned that he could have been on the 53-man roster for Week 1, but was being a bit more careful. However, Kamara being a full participant for Wednesday’s practice makes the opposing defensive coordinator have to gameplan differently. It will be intriguing to see how Kamara looks if he is able to get on the field for Week 2.
