MADISON — Sometimes things don’t go your way.
It just wasn’t the New Holstein Huskies softball team’s day on Friday, June 12, in the WIAA Division 3 state semifinal.
New Holstein fell 7-3 to end the program’s second-ever trip to the state tournament.

The story was a couple baserunning miscues to end two innings, including one that turned runners on second and third with one out into an inning-ending double play in the third.
Senior Natalie Wagner led the Huskies at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base.
New Holstein was held to six hits although left six runners stranded over the seven innings.
And while the end result wasn’t what the team was hoping for, the Huskies were able to do something only done once before in school history by reaching the state tournament.

Teams don’t need superstars to have success and New Holstein is a terrific example. The team has lots of talent and plenty of capable stars on a given afternoon or evening.
There’s no telling if the Huskies will be back next season to Madison but having the experience they did enjoy, even in defeat, will last a lifetime.
