Jalen Duren and the Detroit Pistons are officially at an impasse over a contract extension for the center. After recent reports have revealed the offer Pistons had in place for Duren, his agent has now come under a lot of criticism for offering him wrong advice.
Shams Charania of ESPN reported that the franchise offered the third-team All-NBA selection a five-year deal that will see him make $200 million fully guaranteed.

However, the contract also included a weight clause, which according to sources now has worsened the relationship between Duren and the Pistons front office.
He even skipped the Pistons’ media day availability and in his absence, General Manager Trajan Langdon and players like Cade Cunningham and Ausar Thompson were asked questions about his contract standoff.
The 22-year-old was a pivotal piece in the Pistons’ run to becoming the number one seed in the Eastern Conference.
It was expected that they would extend his contract alongside Ausar Thompson, but the Pistons’ offer was less than the full max-extension that Duren was expecting.
Duren is represented by Chafie Fields of The Team. Since the whole situation has unravelled, many analysts have called out his agent for advising Duren against taking the five-year deal that will see him make $200 million fully guaranteed.

Duren now has until October 1 to either sign the extension offer from the Pistons or take the fully guaranteed $9.6 million qualifying offer.
This will be him taking a chance on himself, as a brilliant performance from him could help him land a max-extension, but if he gets injured or has a bad season, the offer could be lowered.
Fans tweeted on his agent Chafie Fields’ old X tweet, where he tweeted, “@NBA = @WWE.”
This probably was in reference to a regular season game, but months later fans have used it to call out his actions in the Duren-Pistons standoff.
One fan said, “Request a trade. Ruin your clients value even more!.” While another added, “Worst agent in the history of the nba.”

A fan remarked, “You are the reason free agency becomes worse every year.”
Another fan poked fun at the agent by naming the college he went to. “Penn state education it all makes sense now!” the fan tweeted. A user on X also said, “This is why you and your team been leaking sorties.. I feel sorry that Duren is taking your stupid advice and ruining his reputation within the league.”
Someone also pointed out to Fields’ client Tari Eason losing money after he refused an extension last offseason.
“Didn’t Tari also lose a bag under your advice?” the fan asked.

Duren is definitely a talented player and has a bright future in the NBA, but refusing to sign a $200 million deal is too big a risk according to many analysts.
This can either go in his favour or completely against him, but it is certain that any decision Duren makes will have major repercussions in his career.
