The shadow treasurer has refused to rule out forming a coalition with One Nation after the minor party’s historic win in last night’s byelection.
“It all comes down to what Australians put up. I want to stop the Albanese government from continuing to wreck Australia, continuing to go to elections saying one thing, then within 12 months … overturning them at the first budget that comes along,” Tim Wilson told the ABC.
Wilson, who has previously labelled One Nation “despicable” and “toxic”, said he wanted to put the Liberal Party in a strong position to govern.
“Of course, we traditionally form a coalition with the National Party, but it’s up to the Australian people to decide who they want to vote for. But I can tell you quite clearly, my objective is to make sure that Liberals beat One Nation candidates.”
