The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested three men and recovered quantities of dry and freshly harvested leaves suspected to be Indian hemp during an anti-crime operation in Keana Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, identified as Aondaver Dominic, Sylvanus Umoor and Peter Tar, were arrested on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at about 1 p.m. by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Lafia.
According to a press release issued on Friday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the arrests were made during an anti-crime patrol at Sabongida Bature and Gidan Kparev villages in the Kadarko area of Keana LGA.
The statement disclosed that the operatives were led to a suspected hideout where marijuana was allegedly sold and consumed. The suspects reportedly attempted to flee upon sighting the police but were apprehended, while quantities of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered.
Further investigation, according to the statement, led the police to a garden behind the suspects’ residence, where freshly harvested leaves suspected to be marijuana were allegedly found. The Command said all recovered exhibits had been secured for further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered a thorough investigation into the case and directed that the suspects and recovered exhibits be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and necessary action in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner also directed officers and men of the Command to sustain their operational tempo and intensify efforts to combat criminal activities across the state.

Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to public safety, the police said they would continue working to protect lives and property across Nasarawa State.
“The Command will not rest on its oars until crime and criminality are decisively curtailed in Nasarawa State,” the statement quoted the Commissioner as saying.
The police also urged members of the public to provide credible and timely information to security agencies to strengthen collective efforts towards maintaining peace and security in the state.
