The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has uncovered an illegal herbal product manufacturing facility in Agege, Lagos State, and arrested the company manager for further interrogation over the use of a falsified registration number on herbal products.
The agency disclosed in a statement on its official account on X that the discovery followed a report published by The Guardian on October 10, 2026, concerning herbal products carrying fake NAFDAC registration numbers.
“A NAFDAC investigative team conducted surveillance and subsequently discovered three variants of Asheitu Adams Bitters bearing NAFDAC Registration Number A7-1827L,” the statement said.
Further checks on the agency’s NAPAMS portal showed that the registration number belongs to Greentol Cough Syrup, indicating that it had been fraudulently used on the herbal products.
NAFDAC said the company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer was absent when the investigative team carried out the operation.

However, the company manager was arrested for further interrogation as investigations into the suspected illegal manufacturing activities continued.
“The company’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer was absent during the operation, while the company manager was arrested for further interrogation,” the statement added.
The agency urged members of the public to provide credible information about suspected illegal manufacturing operations to help it identify and address such activities.
NAFDAC advised the public to report relevant information through its call centre and email.
