Vehicle owners in Minna, the Niger State capital, have expressed frustration over the prolonged shortage of Compressed Natural Gas, CNG, saying the product has been unavailable for the past three months despite the cost they incurred in converting their vehicles to use it.
The motorists staged a protest at the NNPC Mega Station along the Western Bypass in Minna on Sunday, calling on the relevant authorities to address the situation and restore regular supply.
The vehicle owners said they switched from Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, commonly known as petrol, to CNG to reduce transportation expenses, but the persistent scarcity had left them unable to enjoy the anticipated savings.
They explained that converting their vehicles to run on CNG required considerable financial investment, which they expected to recover through lower fuel costs.
However, the prolonged shortage has undermined those expectations, forcing them to contend with the challenges of operating their vehicles without reliable access to the alternative fuel.
The protesters urged the authorities and relevant stakeholders to take immediate steps to resolve the supply problem and ensure that CNG remains accessible to motorists in Minna.
