It’s the latest of many ER closures for the hospital in the past couple of years, with the most recent one five days ago.

The ER will be closed at 5 p.m. on Saturday and will reopen on Sunday at 8 a.m. It will be closed again overnight Tuesday and Wednesday.

It will be closed again next weekend on Saturday and Sunday nights, as well as overnight on June 30. And again on the nights of July 3 and July 4.

The situation should improve later this summer. Fraser Health says there are no more unstaffed physician shifts in July in the ER.

The interruptions will begin at 5 p.m. each night to ensure patients already in the emergency department can be seen by a physician before they end their shift at 11 p.m., Fraser Health said in a news release Friday.

Emergency-trained nurses will be available to support walk-in patients needing basic care, and to assist with redirection of care.

Anyone with a life-threatening emergency, such as chest pain, difficulty breathing or severe bleeding, should call 911 so they can be taken to another hospital during these closures.

Fraser Health says only the emergency department will be closed and all other services at Mission Memorial Hospital are available.
