More properties evacuated because of out-of-control wildfire near Boston Bar

The Fraser Valley Regional District has issued another evacuation order for two out-of-control wildfires burning near Boston Bar.

The evacuation alert for the Canyon Alpine area has been upgraded to an evacuation order and residents in the area must leave immediately, officials said in an update Tuesday night.

Officials say the new order is a result of the wildfire danger from the Brunswick Creek and Ainslie Creek wildfires.

The Brunswick Creek wildfire, which broke out July 2 and is considered a wildfire of note, has exploded in size to more than 25 square kilometres in the Fraser Canyon while the Ainslie Creek wildfire, which ignited on July 4, is more than 88 square kilometres, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service as of Wednesday.

Both fires are believed to have been caused by humans.

There are now five evacuation orders in total in the area, issued by the Fraser Valley Regional District, Boothroyd Indian Band and the Boston Bar Indian Band.

The wildfires also prompted a yellow air quality warning to be issued by Metro Vancouver for Chilliwack, Agassiz and Hope on Monday afternoon. That warning was lifted at noon on Tuesday.
