    Watch: Miley Cyrus Teases Name Change Ahead of Releasing New Music

    Like her best friend Lesley said, Miley Cyrus is just being Miley.  

    Quite literally, as the “See You Again” singer appears to be teasing a major change to her name on social media ahead of dropping new music. 

    On Aug. 31, the Grammy winner debuted a new handle on her social media profiles, dropping “Cyrus” to just go by Miley on social media. That same day, she posted a red and black-filtered photo of herself with the caption, “MILEY.”

    The following day, Cyrus confirmed she will drop her new album, Bass Persuades, on Sept. 18.

    “Music takes hold of us,” Cyrus wrote in a Sept. 1 Instagram post. “We feel it, sing it, sometimes dance to it, let it out and carry on. It is powerful, vulnerable, sweet and strong. Heart full, heartache, every part of life in between. That’s what the title means to me.”

    Cyrus’ new era couldn’t come at a more opportune time, as she announced her engagement to Maxx Morando in December on the tails of her last album Something Beautiful.

    But it wasn’t something the Hannah Montana star entirely saw coming. 

    “I’m telling you, I was so, so, so surprised,” Cyrus mused on a Dec. 3 appearance on Good Morning America. “I love to control every situation. I had completely surrendered.”

    For the “Wrecking Ball” artist, her engagement signified a major transformation.

    “It’s very obvious the amount of drastic growth I’ve had in those four years,” she continued. “You want to dream the biggest you can and you want to have someone by your side who always tells you you can do it.”

    And while some of Cyrus’ fans have speculated her new potential name change is a dig at her dad Billy Ray Cyrus, the 33-year-old previously confirmed her family had buried the hatchet after a yearslong feud. 

    “Half of us weren’t speaking to each other at one point,” Cyrus confirmed during a June 2025 appearance on the Reclaiming podcast, “and we cleaned it all up.”

    Nodding to her dad and mom Tish Cyrus’ 2022 divorce, she admitted, “I watched what happens when you don’t clean things up as they’re happening.”

    As for how the Disney Channel alum—whose siblings include Brandi Cyrus, 38, Trace Cyrus, 37, Braison Cyrus, 31 and Noah Cyrus, 26, as well as Christopher Cody Cyrus, 33, from a previous relationship of Billy Ray’s—went about extending an olive branch to her dad?

    “I just kind of bust through the pile that’s stacked, and just go, ‘I’m here. You’re here. Let’s start by having a good time together,’” she continued. “And then as we start bringing some happiness and joy into each other’s life, then we’ll just be in a better place to have these conversations. ‘Cause I’d rather get it balanced first.”

    Trust, Cyrus would never put any beef before family. As she put it, “I always wanted my family to feel like I was the safe place that I always had the white flag when they came to talk to me.”

He captioned his Instagram post, “Happy Birthday Braison!!!!!”One day later, Miley broke her silence about the family rift rumors, noting on Instamgram that she and her dad “have had our challenges over the years.”Miley continued, “Now, in my thirties, family is my priority above all else. I’m at peace knowing bridges have been built and time has done a lot of healing. Grateful for the good health and love that flows through my family.”
