Mike Tomlin’s latest defence of Josh Allen has left NFL fans divided after the former Pittsburgh Steelers coach compared the Buffalo Bills quarterback’s Super Bowl struggles to Peyton Manning‘s early career.
Tomlin told Chris Simms that fans should “keep watching” because Allen is still writing his story, pointing to Manning as an example of a quarterback who faced similar criticism before eventually winning a championship.

Allen has already won an MVP award and opened the 2026 season with 582 passing yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions through two games. He has also rushed for 92 yards and four touchdowns as Buffalo started 2-0.
Tomlin’s comparison to Manning did not convince everyone, particularly with Allen still searching for his first Super Bowl appearance.
“Unfortunately for Josh, KC down years are over already. Not going to be a decade between Super Bowls like New England. Now teams can’t just sit back comfortably and Veach nailed the draft, the league is in trouble.”

Another fan took aim at Tomlin himself, writing: “Mike Tomlin will make unlimited money as an analyst, One of the best newcomers we’ve seen in a while”
One supporter focused on Tomlin’s choice of words, adding: “”…until he got it done” being the operative phrase.”
The frustration was even more direct from another fan: “Man I’m so tired of the Tomlin stuff already.”
One supporter brought Lamar Jackson into the discussion, writing: “Keep that same energy that you guys have for Lamar”
