Florida State has been blazing hot on the recruiting trail since the start of June. They’ve added 10 players to their 2027 class since then, with two coming this week. However, fans of the Seminoles shouldn’t expect a lot more going forward.
The NCAA recently implemented an age-based eligibility model that allows athletes to compete for five years within a five-year window, which eliminates traditional redshirt years. That five-year window begins either when a prospect is enrolled as a student on a full-time basis, or at the start of the academic year that follows their 19th birthday. It depends which comes first.

Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell spoke about the matter at the ACC Kickoff. He explained how the new rules are changing the way FSU is recruiting this cycle.
“That’s changed some of the dynamics in our recruiting,” Norvell said at ACC Kickoff via Warchant. “As you sit there and you look at, I think we have 12 guys who are going to be seniors with an opportunity to come back now.”
As things currently sit, FSU has 15 commitments in 2027. With that said, they have a plethora of guys that could return in 2027 due to having five years of eligibility, most notably wide receiver Duce Robinson. So, with that potential possibility, it’s allowed Florida State to take a different approach to recruiting this time around.
“We’re going to sign a small high school class,” Norvell said. “Part of that is because the projection of roster retention moving forward. Kind of reminds me a little bit of ’22. … We’re going to have some really good players that will have some decisions there.”

FSU has a chance to land four-star safety Ta’Shawn Poole on Friday, which would be a huge addition and a nice way to end the summer as far as acquiring high school talent. If that’s the case, there won’t be much more after that.
