Michigan State basketball fans can breathe one huge collective sigh of relief now. Late on Wednesday night, less than two hours from the deadline, Spartan fans got some massive news as star point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. decided to withdraw his name from the NBA Draft and return to East Lansing for at least one more season.
This is the move most assumed would occur when this process began, but thanks to an extremely strong showing in the NBA Draft combine, Fears’ return became less certain. Now, Fears will return to MSU as, presumably, one of the preseason favorites to be the National Player of the Year and will give the Spartans a great shot at winning the Big Ten title, and maybe more.

Fears will also get another year in school, where he is certainly earning a healthy NIL salary, to refine his game, especially his shooting, and vie for a first-round selection in a future draft. It should also be noted that Fears wasn’t the only Spartan to withdraw his name from the draft today, as incoming transfer center Anton Bonke did the same.
