Michigan State football dropped a heartbreaker on Saturday evening, falling to Illinois 38-37 in overtime, and falling for the fourth straight time in the 2026 season.
A game that saw the Spartans fall behind 17-0 early, Michigan State gave their homecoming crowd an exciting game with a roaring comeback, and almost completed the massive comeback. The comeback effort was spearheaded by quarterback Alessio Milivojevic, who bounced back in a strong way, completing 22-of-26 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns.

Despite his strong effort, the Spartans fell, and Milivojevic talked about it post game:
-
“We had a few calls we were thinking about, but this was the one we had on our mind the entire week. They played it well, props to them.”
-
“Losing any game, it’s going to sting. No one is waving the white flag or throwing the towel. There are six games left. We have the offense, have the defense, have the special teams to go win games.”
-
“I saw Bryson get grabbed at the top of the route, I looked off of him.”
-
“Jaz played amazing today. He ran extremely hard. It was a full front 5, front 6 effort from the entire team. I was really proud of him.”
-
“We knew, going into the first OT, we were going for two. We trusted our guys to go win that game. Being aggressive, it happens.”
-
“We’re always going to expect to go, and get them.”
