Tickets for England’s last-16 clash against co-hosts Mexico at World Cup 2026 are selling for eye-watering prices up to $36,000 [£27,300].
The clash is rivalling the most expensive World Cup knockout fixtures ever after England battled to a 2-1 victory over DR Congo thanks to Harry Kane’s rescue act to set up a mouthwatering tie at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, at 1am BST on Monday.

Outgoing prime minister Keir Starmer is set to relax UK licensing laws to allow all pubs to stay open until the small hours on Monday morning should they wish but fans hoping to attend the fixture in Mexico face ludicrously high ticket prices on Fifa’s resale website.
England have been well supported at this World Cup, with around 25,000 fans estimated to have been cheering on Thomas Tuchel’s side at matches but the last-16 clash will, unsurprisingly, have the majority of tickets sold to Mexican fans.
The 80,000-capacity Azteca is an iconic stadium, where England last played a World Cup match in 1986 against Argentina – when Diego Maradona scored his infamous Hand of God goal and his brilliant ‘goal of the century’ – and around 4,000 Three Lions fans are understood to be travelling via the official ticket allocation released to the Football Association earlier this year.

It is thought that the number of England fans in the stadium could rise to about 8,000 but as mentioned, tickets on the secondary market have reached extortionate levels.
Among the initial tickets released to the England supporters club, fans were able to pick up the cheapest Category 3 seat for $235 (£175) with Category 2 seats at $605 (£452) and Category 1 at $770 (£576).
At full-time of England’s win over DR Congo, Fifa’s resale platform had Category 1 tickets being sold at up to $35,648 (£26,678), with Category 2s up to $11,845 (£8,865) and Category 3s as high as $19,453 (£14,558).
There could also potentially be chaos in Mexico City around the match. There were clashes between police and protesters ahead of the tournament’s opening match, while three Mexican fans were crushed to death in the celebrations following the 2-0 victory over Ecuador in the last 32.
