Tobias Myers was traded to the New York Mets with Freddy Peralta during the 2025 offseason. The Mets were very excited to see how these two would boost the team’s pitching depth. Sadly, this trade hasn’t worked out in Queens.
Peralta was traded at the deadline this season to the Tampa Bay Rays and is now fighting to make it to the World Series with his new team. Myers, on the other hand, stayed with the Mets for a full season and had a relatively weak season. With Myers under arbitration, the question becomes: does Myers have a guaranteed spot on the Mets next season?

Myers made 32 appearances for the Mets in 2026. In those 32 games, he pitched 53 2/3 innings and went 1-2 with a 5.53 ERA. The hope was he could be an X-factor on the Mets pitching staff, but it was not the best start to his tenure with this team. He was used mostly as a reliever but also had a few starting opportunities. However, those starting opportunities turned out to be a disaster for Myers. In just three starts through this past season, Myers pitched just 4 2/3 innings and had an ERA above 15. He just was not able to get anything going in any of those starts.

As a reliever, Myers had better numbers, but still nothing to guarantee a spot for him on the roster next season. He had a 4.59 ERA through 49 innings as a reliever, giving up 25 earned runs through those innings. The numbers were not in favor of Myers last season, and he has solid stuff, but it never showed except for a few appearances.
With the Mets likely going all in on Tarik Skubal in the offseason and most of their rotation filled with the young guns, the only spot Myers can be placed in is the bullpen. However, it is unclear if there is even a spot for him there.
If Myers were to start the season with the team, he is going to have to have a strong Spring Training. There are a few guys that he will be going up against for a spot in that bullpen. A few names who will be competing to start the season with the Mets could be young reliever Nate Lavender, Daniel Duarte, Justin Hagenman, and Jonathan Pintaro. A few other guys may be fighting for a spot as well, so it will not be easy for Myers to just strut his way into a spot on the Mets roster next year.

Myers cannot afford to start slow next season. He needs to start as he did in April of 2026. In his first nine games this season, Myers pitched 19 1/3 innings and posted a 2.33 ERA. Those middle months ended up being his kryptonite, as his ERA would skyrocket, posting an ERA of six or higher in May, June, and July.
He was sent down in August and then brought back up for September, in which he appeared in six games. In those six games, he posted a 1.17 ERA through 7 2/3 innings, ending the season on a high note for himself.
