Met Gala 2026: Emily Blunt’s $500,000 Body Necklace Is Groundbreaking

“Typically for the Met Gala, the clothing fully embodies the theme, while the jewelry plays more of a supporting role. Here, we reversed that,” she added. “The body necklace became the garment, it defines the silhouette and directly expresses the relationship between the body and what adorns it.”

The Oppenheimer actress’ attendance at this year’s event—co-hosted this year by Anna Wintour, Beyoncé, Nicole Kidmanand Venus Williams—marks her fifth time walking the famed Met steps, having previously attended in 2023, 2021, 2019 and 2016.

Her return to fashion’s biggest night is no surprise, though, given her, Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci’s recent return to their fashion-obsessed Devil Wears Prada characters in the film’s sequel, which premiered May 1. 

Ahead of the release, Emily—mom to daughters Hazel, 12, and Violet, 9, with John Krasinski—detailed why she is so grateful for the role that “changed everything” for her.

“I’d been working, but no one knew who I was,” she told Elle in November, “and [director David Frankel] was so sure that he wanted me in the movie, from a taped reading. That meant a huge amount to me.”

Emily, 43, added of her “ludicrous” character, “It did leave the door open for people to see me as more than a British period drama girl. It paved the way for character roles, which is all I wanted. I didn’t want to be an ingénue. I was curious to explore an entire bag of tricks.”

And regardless of her varied career, she’s happy to have fans always return to her breakout role.

“The movie now is a nostalgia bank for people,” she continued. “It has been a source of comfort and escapism. And the movie is really incredible as well. I think it’s a beautiful movie.”
