Watch: Megan Thee Stallion Breaks Down in Tears During ‘Moulin Rouge!’ After Klay Thompson Breakup
The show will have to go on without Megan Thee Stallion earlier than expected.
The “Hot Girl Summer” rapper announced on April 27 that she was shortening her eight-week run as nightclub owner Zidler in the Broadway production of Moulin Rouge! The Musical.
“Hotties, my last performance as Zidler in @moulinrougebway will be May 1,” Megan—who was initially scheduled to end her run on May 17—wrote on Instagram. “It’s been such an honor to be part of thee Moulin Rouge family and I’ve met so many amazing people in this theater!”
“Y’all work so hard and I have so much respect for the dedication, the stamina, the work ethic, the time and the effort y’all put into the work,” she continued. “I’m so grateful for the cast and crew that made this experience so meaningful. And to all the Hotties that showed up or planned to attend, thank you for supporting me during this incredible journey! I LOVE YALL.”
Megan, 31, did not provide a reason to her early exit from the show. However, her month-long run had been marred with complications, including a brief hospitalization for what her rep described as “extreme exhaustion and dehydration, vasoconstriction and low metabolic levels” as well as her recent breakup with boyfriend Klay Thompson.
“I’ve made the decision to end my relationship with Klay,” Megan told E! News in an April 25 statement. “Trust, fidelity and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there’s no real path forward.”
She added, “I’m taking this time to prioritize myself and move ahead with peace and clarity.”

And the Grammy winner appeared to push through her heartache for her performance that same night, breaking down in tears during the musical’s curtain call in video footage circulating on social media.
Klay, who Megan started dating last year, has not publicly addressed the split. E! News has reached out to his rep but hasn’t heard back.
