Watch: Emmys Host Mariska Hargitay and Peter Hermann Make Rare Red Carpet Appearance With Their 3 Kids
Mariska Hargitay has arrived at the scene with her partners in crime.
TheLaw & Order: Special Victims Unit star attended the2026 Emmys at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater Sept. 14 alongside her husband Peter Hermann and their kids August, 18, Amaya, 15, and Andrew, 13. And you don’t need a detective to get clued in on their outfits.
Hargitay hit thered carpet in a showstopping red gown that cascades into feature-like embellishment along the hem. Their daughter was her twin, stepping out in the same dress sans the long train. Meanwhile, Hermann and their two boys opted for matching classic black tuxedos. (See all the looks here).
While the actress is used tocaptaining Manhattan’s Special Victims Unit as Olivia Benson, she’ll be heading a different operation this evening as Emmys host—making her the first woman to emcee the ceremony in 15 years.
Not only has Hargitay beennominated for an Emmy eight times for her lead role on Law & Order: SVU—winning in 2006—but she also took home two gold statues at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys on Sept. 5 forMy Mom Jayne, a documentary she directed and produced about her late momJayneMansfield.
And it’s an open-shut case as to who led her cheer squad. Posting a photo of Hermann proudly flashing two fingers as she held up both trophies, the 62-year-old captioned the Sept. 6Instagram post, “God I love him.”
If you’re unfamiliar with how the couple met, these are their stories. Hermann made his first guest appearance as defense attorney Trevor Langan on a 2002 episode of Law & Order: SVU.
“On the first day, I was so nervous,” Hargitay recalled on a 2022 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show. “He was very handsome, and it was distracting.”
Wanting to investigate if there could be a connection, Hermann invited her to church for their first date.
“I’m crying, and he thinks that I’m so moved by the sermon,” the Every Brilliant Thing alum added. “And I’m crying because I’m like, ‘I know I’m going to marry him. I found my husband. I love him.'”

With all the evidence pointing towards them being soulmates, Hargitay and Hermann tied the knot in 2004. They welcomed their eldest August two years later, followed by Amayaand Andrew in 2011.
“I think my family is my biggest place of success in my life,” Hargitay said on Call Her Daddy in 2025. “It’s everything that I wanted. My husband is everything that I wanted. My husband is my home, my cheerleader, makes me laugh. He can fix anything, and the best dad.”
