Watch: Maren Morris Comes Out as Bisexual in Pride Month Message
The bones were not good in Maren Morris‘ first relationship with a woman.
The country music star detailed what she described as her “bisexual journey” after coming out in 2024, quipping that it’s been “pretty short” after a disturbing experience.
“I briefly was seeing a woman and I was not looking for anything serious,” Maren began in an April 15 TikTok video. “I’m at a point in my life right now where just I don’t have that to give. I was very clear about that because I’m all about communication, and she was like, ‘Oh, totally. I’m down.'”
However, the 36-year-old, who was married to fellow musician Ryan Hurd from 2018 to 2024, said that “was not the case” as the relationship progressed.
“Within three weeks of this completely falling apart, it was lies, threats to my reputation and borderline extortion,” Maren continued. “It was pretty f–ked up. And for that to be my first experience, it was just so depressing.”
What’s worse, Maren said she’s been told by friends in the lesbian community that her experience was “very normal.”
“‘You start seeing women and one is going to almost ruin your life,'” she recalled her friends’ advice. “‘We’ve all been there. You just have to push through.'”
And that’s why the “Bones” singer—mom to son 6-year-old son Hayes from her marriage—feels she’s “just really cool being alone” for the time being. As she jokingly wrote in the caption of her video, “bi trauma.”
Indeed, Maren has hit several bumps in her road to finding love again after her divorce. Last year, she admitted that it’s been challenging to decipher the line between female friendship and romantic connection.

“I have confusion sometimes because I can connect with a woman, any woman within like two minutes,” Maren explained in a May episode of the U Up? podcast. “We’ll be talking about our childhoods. We’ll be talking about the bully when we were 13. We will get into it so quickly. With a guy, that would take like years to get into that trauma.”
“Sometimes, I just love a woman and we’re friends,” she continued. “Then, she’s giving me a vibe of, like, she’s gonna kiss me.”
For the Grammy winner, “That’s where I sometimes have the hard delineation of romance versus friendship because women can connect so quickly and easily, which is a magical thing about us.”
