One man is dead and another has been charged with manslaughter after a fire at the Peardonville homeless encampment in Abbotsford on Friday night.

Shortly after 6 p.m. Abbotsford police were joined at the encampment by firefighters who extinguished the fire in a single wooden structure. A 47-year-old man was found dead inside the structure at the camp, located in the 31500-block of South Fraser Way.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team took over the investigation. On Saturday, they charged a 49-year-old man with manslaughter.

Police confirmed the incident is an isolated and targeted homicide, and the men knew each other.
