A 24-year-old man is facing several charges after police found a a loaded gun during an unrelated traffic stop.

Surrey Police Service officers arrested a man after a vehicle was stopped Monday evening in Surrey’s City Centre neighbourhood.

At about 7:45 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle for a driving infraction near 148th Street and 108th Avenue. One of the occupants was found in possession of a firearm.

Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton said the traffic stop was routine and the investigation isn’t related to extortion.

Gurwinder Singh has been charged with possession of a loaded restricted or prohibited firearm, occupying a vehicle knowing there was a prohibited firearm in it, possession of a gun without a licence, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and careless storage of a firearm.
