Famed filmmaker Steven Spielberg and composer John Williams will be celebrated at a special Movie Nights with the VSO screening and concert.

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra under conductor Julian Pellicano performs Williams’ score for the groundbreaking 1993 adventure thriller Jurassic Park for one weekend in July. As the orchestra backs the projected HD cut of the film classic “65 Million Years in the Making,” the audience can literally feel the stampeding Gallimimus as they flee from a ravenous T-Rex, or revel in the intelligent planning of hunting velociraptors.

Naturally, the score from Williams is a jewel in the 54-time Academy Award-winning superstar composer’s crown and it’s certain to be extremely entertaining performed by the Grammy-winning Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. The 94 year-old composer has created a legacy of film soundtracks dating back to 1965 which have influenced generations of cinematic composers.

He is in a league of his own when it comes to pairing sweeping dramatic passages with lockstep and dynamic action. From Star Wars and E.T. to the first three Harry Potter films, Williams’ work shines in a live performance setting. The VSO has been playing his scores for films by directors such as Alfred Hitchcock, Alfonso Cuarón and Ron Howard for years.

The Movie Nights with the VSO performances are presented by Telus and are family-oriented events. For other music and cinema pairings, the Silent Movie Mondays at the Orpheum are also very popular.
