    Love Is Blind’s Chelsea Griffin, Kwame Appiah Break Up After 4 Years

    Watch: Chelsea on “Difficult” Reaction to THAT Scene Between Micah & Kwame

    Chelsea Griffin and Kwame Appiah’s marriage has seen its final days.  

    After getting married on Love Is Blind four years ago, the couple—who met on season four of the Netflix hit—have decided to go their separate ways.

    “It’s heartbreaking to share that our marriage is coming to an end,” Chelsea wrote on May 15 alongside a black and white portrait of the pair hugging on Instagram. “This is not the outcome I hoped for, and I entered this relationship with deep love, commitment and the intention of building a lasting life together.”

    So, what was the reason for the split?  

    Chelsea, 34, shared in her statement that a lack of love wasn’t the issue. “As time went on, it became clear we are growing in different directions,” Chelsea explained. “I poured my whole heart into this marriage and wanted it to work until the very end, but lasting marriages require more than love alone.”

    While the Southern California native who participated in the Seattle season called this chapter of life “deeply painful,” she also remains “grateful for the life, memories and experiences” they had together.

    As such, Chelsea ended her update on a positive note, adding, “I trust that healing and clarity will come with time.”

    For his part, Kwame—who moved to the U.S. from Ghana when he was 8 years old and flew in his sister Barbara for his TV wedding—shared similar sentiments about the “unimaginable” breakup.

    “It’s been one of the hardest decisions to make,” Kwame, 36, detailed on a separate slide in the same post, continuing, “We will always have respect and care for each other in everything we shared.”

    “As difficult as it’s been to arrive here,” Kwame shared before signing off, “I believe it’s in our best interest considering amongst many other things, that our ultimate life goals don’t feel aligned.”

    Both Chelsea and Kwame thanked LIB fans for all of their support over the years. Indeed, the series co-hosted by Nick Lachey and Vanessa Lachey is well known for making love matches in the pods where single contestants get engaged within days of meeting and without ever seeing each other. 

    Although Chelsea and Kwame initially expressed concerns about him having to permanently relocate to Seattle from Portland, Ore.—as well as their conflicting timelines for having any future children—they ultimately tied the knot in 2022 and went on to celebrate many milestones, including their second anniversary in 2024.   

    “Through all of our ups and downs, through our toughest moments, through this long but beautiful journey we have embarked on, you help me be better,” Kwame captioned a series of happy photos on Instagram. “The fact that fate brought us together in such a serendipitous way, proves that miracles really do happen if you open up and believe.”

    Jessica Barrett & Chris Fusco: Broke UpThe couple’s engagement came to an abrupt end once Chris confessed to Jessica that he wasn’t physically attracted to her.However, Jessica has since found love in another pod mate, as she later revealed at the reunion, with fellow doctor Haramol Gill.”You are everything, Jess,” Haramol told her during the special. “Every room you walk into gets brighter.”

    Mike Gibney & Emma Betsinger: Broke UpThough they nearly exchanged vows after falling in love sight unseen, their differing perspectives on having kids—Emma has voiced her uncertainty while Mike has been firm about having them—was too much of a factor to compromise on.“I do love you,” Mike told Emma. “Right now, I’m not ready to say I do. I want kids. And I want to know that you definitely, 100 percent want a family with me.     Ashley Carpenter & Alex Henderson: Broke UpBefore walking down the aisle, the soccer coach—who caused a stir amongst viewers this season—compared his wedding day to a “penalty shootout with everything on the line,” noting that he was confident that they would make it.However, Ashley made it clear that it wouldn’t be the goal and jumped in when he was presented with whether he would say “I do.” “I know what you’re going to say,” she told him. “I know you don’t choose me and I’m not choosing you either.” Ashley went on to list a number of reasons why they didn’t work out, including questions about his integrity. A point Alex made sure to address in that very same moment. “I do disagree to an extent about the integrity,” he told her. “I felt as though the questions about my past were more to try and catch me in something than really understand me.” And if you’re wondering whether he would do anything differently: “Absolutely no regrets on my end, I’m so pleased and proud of myself as a person.”

    Victor “Vic” St. John & Christine Hamilton: MarriedFrom the start, Christine and Vic were instantly a match made in pod heaven, with the two both happily agreeing to their future together.“I never thought I would fall in love in such a unique experiment, and Christine,” he noted during his vows, “the moment we spoke in those pods, we just connected…You know more about me than anyone else on this planet.”

    Anton Yarosh & Ali Lima: Broke UpIn the end, Anton’s drinking habits and financial situation didn’t seem to match what Ali was seeking. “I can’t be your wife,” she told the truck driver at the altar. “The person I fell in love with in the pods isn’t the person I’ve gotten to experience in real life.” So, she listened to her intuition.”It just didn’t feel right or how I would expect that moment to feel like,” she told the cameras. “I don’t feel he was super forthcoming about his lifestyle.”Anton’s reaction? “I don’t know if it’s looks, I don’t know if it’s the vibes or I don’t know if it’s the way that we were living together. But I can say I’ve done nothing but care for her.”

    Megan Walerius & Jordan Keltner: Broke UpThough the couple bonded over having loved ones with Type 1 diabetes, their differing lifestyles (he preferred a more simplistic way of life; she loves luxury) were a breaking point for Megan, who called off the wedding at the end of the season nine finale.”We’re ships in the night, like two different people,” the entrepreneur told him. But the metaphor passed him by, with Jordan insisting, “I don’t see it.”When Megan cited his picky eating habits and his inflexible travel schedule as a dad, Jordan told her, “I don’t know why you chose me in the pods then.” “Initially I leaned into opposites attract but I still just have reservations,” she explained before they each began crying. “Knowing this today, there’s no way I wanted to go to the altar and put either of us through that.”Jordan shared his one regret was introducing her to his son, Luca, saying in a confessional,”I feel like she doesn’t love me for me and that’s the closure I need.”Megan admitted the ordeal had her “questioning if I’m even cut out to be a mom. Maybe I am too caught up in my own life.”

    Kalybriah Haskin & Edmond L. Harvey: Broke UpThey both confessed they “love the hell out of” each other at the altar, but Kalybriah turned Edmond down with an apology. “You deserve someone that is 100 percent at the altar and I’m not 100 percent right now,” she told the realtor. Still, she stressed, “My no doesn’t mean that I don’t love you.” While Edmond broke down in tears, Kalybriah thanked him for being “so graceful” as she made the “hard” decision. When he asked if she’d date him “down the road,” Kalybriah said she’d never write him off. “I am shocked,” he said in a confessional of her decision. “There was no bright side.”

    Madison Maidenberg & Joe Ferrucci: Broke UpThe pair didn’t make it to the altar in season nine, as Joe ended the relationship after having a breakdown at his tux fitting. “On and off camera, Joe was different,” Madison later told Glamour. “Off camera, he was far more reassuring. We were very intimate, very touchy. And then on camera, it was the opposite, and you kind of see that at the pool party.”Madison even asked Joe about his attraction for her, which he confessed was an issue during their vacation.”I kind of dug deeper, like, ‘What is your typical type?’ And he was like, ‘I just usually date more petite women,'” she recalled to the outlet. “I am a really confident person. At that moment, it kind of put me into this insecure feeling.”Joe defended his comment, telling the outlet, “I was trying, poorly, to explain a pattern in my past dating experiences, not to compare or criticize.”

    Annie Lancaster & Nick Amato: Broke UpNick dumped Annie before the wedding day, explaining he was hurt that she continued to say she loved him more than he loved her.However, the hairstylist refused to believe it was over and tried to convince Nick to continue, saying, “Just be in this and love me.””You can’t make one plus one equal three,” he said, prompting her to say, “Watch me.” Nick ultimately told Annie, “The reason that I am not willing to marry you is because I am unhappy.”

    Lauren O’Brien and David Bettenburg: Broke UpTheir romance failed to take off once the pair landed in Honduras, with Dave revealing he and his then-fiancée had mutual friends in common. But it wasn’t the similar inner circles that proved to be the problem, but rather, Dave’s hesitation in moving forward after they told him about Lauren hooking up with someone they knew before the show.Not to mention, Dave also didn’t want to introduce Lauren to his friends and family, noting that his dad didn’t know of his engagement and that his sister—who became a big point of contention—disapproved of their relationship altogether.

But I think there’s bigger things and bigger growth. And I agree, I don’t think I would be ready. And to be completely honest, I’m also not 100 percent at this time.”

    Ben Mezzenga and Sara Carton: Broke UpThough Ben and Sara seemed to disagree on major components of their life together—including religion and politics—by wedding day, the pair seemed to have gotten on the same page. But ultimately, they decided to end their shared story.As Sara—who said I don’t to a future with Ben—explained,”Ben, I love you so much but I always wanted a partner to be on the same wavelength, and so today, I can’t. I’m sorry but I don’t want that to be misunderstood.”She later added, “I know that the connection we have is so real and my heart is there, but when we talked about a lot of the values I hold so close to my heart, making this decision, my mind is telling me I can’t.”

    Devin Buckley and Virginia Miller: Broke UpAnother couple who seemed to be focused on the road ahead post-pods, Devin and Virginia, got along perfectly fine—that is, until the topic of having a prenup came up.But it was even bigger issues that proved to be enough for Virginia, leading her to ultimately saying no to spending the rest of her life with Devin.“I think that in a lot of our relationship, I wanted to protect Devin,” she said, through tears, after the leaving the altar. “And I don’t know if that’s a cultural thing, but it’s always been important for me to protect him. So, there were even topics that he didn’t want to talk about, like politics, there were just certain things he just didn’t want me to push on. So there was just depths of our relationship that we didn’t get to. We just didn’t get there.”

    Taylor Haag and Daniel Hastings: Still MarriedAfter all was said and done, there was at least one couple who did say yes to forever and a season of love past Christmas: Daniel and Taylor.Though the pair seemed to face quite the hurdle (Taylor was convinced Daniel followed, then unfollowed her on Instagram before the show and therefore, knew what she looked like), they managed to clear that particular obstacle.In fact, after exchanging emotional vows, the two enjoyed a beautiful wedding and celebratory reception.”We did it,” Daniel said while sitting alongisde Taylor after their nuptials, with Taylor adding, “We’re so excited to start the next chapter.”

    Brittany Wisniewski and Leo Braudy: Broke UpThough the now-famed art dealer decided to pop the question to the Keeping Well author following his love triangle with Hannah Jiles, the pair ultimately decided after their short engagement, they were better off as friends.“The chemistry just wasn’t there,” Brittany previously told People in a joint interview with Leo. “We had a talk in the beginning about how this could work and then time went on during the trip and the chemistry just wasn’t there and we mutually felt that. We’re very good communicators, so it was not a big ordeal. It was a very clean, respectful realization.”Shortly after her appearance on the Netflix dating show, Brittany debuted her romance with musician Mod Sun in November 2024, but she confirmed in July 2025 that the pair had called it quits.

    Monica Davis and Stephen Richardson: Broke UpMonica and Stephen’s relationship came to a screeching halt when she uncovered “really kinky” sext messages sent between her fiancé and another woman, causing the pair to break up shortly after they arrived home from Mexico. As for Stephen, he apologized in the moment during episode eight, but he also shared a message on social media once the episode aired.”I hope I didn’t ruin anyone’s day by existing,” he wrote on Instagram Stories in October 2024, “and if I did, I’m sorry you had to wake up this morning.     Marissa George and Ramses Prashad: Broke UpYes, you read that right: Though Marissa and Ramses rose to become one of this season’s frontrunners of the couples who would make it, the latter ultimately called off their wedding after having second thoughts.“We have a great future ahead of us, I want to marry you,” Marissa tells her fiancé after a sit-down to which he responds, “I understand falling love is a risk, I understand that.”However, he noted their differences—which have included his stance on the military—may not be enough for them to work through. “After being married and seeing other marriages and hearing from other married people,” he added. “I just don’t think love alone is enough…I think there needs to be other things that are also working.”As for Marissa, though she tried to navigate past their perspectives, once she confirmed it was over, she broke down into tears. “I don’t think you should’ve come to this experience,” she tells him. “How could I feel so sure? And you’re not? It sucks, I want you to choose me,” adding of their split, “This is the worst day of my life.”

    Tyler Francis and Ashley Adionser: DivorcedTyler and Ashley quickly became a fan-favorite couple after viewers watched their relatively easy-going romance unfold. However, the couple hit a bump in the road once Tyler later shared that he had three children, which Ashley referred to as his “sperm donor babies.” (However, there’s online discourse over the extent of his involvement, which he has not addressed publicly).By the October 2024 reunion episode, Ashley and Tyler were able to move past this fact and went on to not only reconnect—but in fact, become husband and wife.“We started this journey two months ago and this changed our entire lives,” Tyler says while sitting alongside Ashley after their wedding. “Now, we get to spend the rest of our lives together.”However, Ashley later shared that the pair had called it quits following over one year of marriage. “After much reflection, I want to share that Tyler and I have been separated for several weeks and have now made the difficult decision to end our marriage,” she told People in a January 2025 statement. “While I had hoped for mutual understanding and transparency in our relationship, it has become clear that our paths are no longer aligned, making it impossible for me to continue in this marriage.”

    Alexandra Byrd and Tim Godbee: Broke UpAlex and Tim seemed to smooth over their major disagreement in Mexico over by the time they got back home to Washington, D.C. and seemed to be better than ever. In fact, Tim had an emotional meeting with Alex’s dad that seemed to cement their future.However, after Alex met with Tim’s family, they got into yet another argument and Tim ended their engagement by telling Alex that he didn’t ever want to see her again. Since then, both have spoken out to defend themselves after the breakup, with Alex noting that their split was not “a mutual decision.”

    Chelsea Blackwell and Jimmy Presnell: Broke UpAfter one or two (or a few) fights throughout the season, Chelsea and Jimmy appeared to finally put their disagreements behind them during an amusement park date set right before their wedding.However, Jimmy made it clear that he was ready for their rollercoaster ride to end, breaking off his engagement to a teary-eyed Chelsea—who was stunned at his decision.”I love you to death and I want a relationship with you,” Jimmy told Chelsea on their date, “and it want it work so bad—but I don’t want to go to the altar. I can’t.”As he explained, “We’re condensing it down to one argument, but it’s been like five or six really big issues that really hit home and hurt my feelings.” (One being that Chelsea revealed Jimmy’s secret about his past relationship with his female friend.)And after yet another back-and-forth between the two over their respective ties with exes, Chelsea left for good in tears: “I was so hopeful for us.”The pair were both single during the March 2024 reunion.

    Clay Gravesande and AD Smith: Broke UpWhile Clay expressed his hesitation to getting married due to his own outlook on his father’s infidelity, AD reassured him that they would prevail as a couple and all seemed to be well between the two. But once faced with the task of saying I do to forever at the altar, Clay said I don’t instead, telling AD that it wouldn’t be “responsible” of him to get married knowing he wasn’t ready.Cue the shock.“I’m going to put the work in for you,” he told AD, “and we’ll go through this together. I don’t care what nobody says; I know fully I’m not ready for marriage and you deserve the best. And if I’m not ready to give you 100 percent, I won’t go there with you when I’m not ready…I can’t say yes right now.”It was a revelation that made AD declare through tears that the relationship was a waste of her “f–king time.”As for Clay, he also revealed that financial—and emotional—ties played a big part in him walking away. “I looked at myself in the mirror and said, ‘Am I a husband?’” he admitted, “and the answer was no. Am I deeply in love? The answer was no.’”During the reunion, Clay expressed that he made a mistake and wanted to date AD, but she played coy on if she’d ever consider getting back together.AD confessed that she did go on a couple dates with costar Matthew Duliba after filming wrapped, but they are not together.She announced in May 2025 she’s expecting her first baby with fiancé Ollie Sutherland.

    Amy Cortés and Johnny McIntyre: Still MarriedThe only season six couple who did say yes to forever? Amy and Johnny, who not only celebrated their new beginning with a gorgeous ceremony, but also seamlessly merged their families into one, with Amy’s dad sweetly telling Johnny’s sister that he feels like he has “multiple daughters” now.As for Johnny, he too declared at his reception that his father-in-law was his “new dad.”They are still married.

    Brittany Mills and Kenneth Gorham: Broke UpThough their romance started off strong, Brittany and Kenneth’s relationship fizzled out once they returned to the real world.As Brittany told Life & Style, “I think that it really took a different turn when we got back to Charlotte and got back home. And I think that our in the pods we were very, very passionate and very intense. And then coming back home, that intensity kind of died down a bit.”The former fiancés remain friends, with Brittany saying at the reunion, “Although we are no longer in a relationship together, the bond that we have is going to last for an eternity.”

    Laura Dadisman and Jeramey Lutinski: Broke UpLaura and Jeramey’s engagement came to a fiery end once Laura learned her fiancé had reconnected with another pod mate, Sarah Ann Bick, during a night out. After their tense confrontation, Laura told Jeramey to kick rocks.But instead of that, he went off to ride jet skis with Sarah Ann. During the reunion in March 2024, Jeramey revealed he has been dating Sarah Ann off-and-on for a year—ever since filming the show—but they’ve since broken up.Laura is dating someone else, who she did not identify at the reunion.

    Izzy Zapata Jr. and Stacy Snyder: Broke UpWhile the season five couple seemed to have worked their way through various issues—including Izzy’s early connection with Johnie Maraist and Stacy’s high expectations about her lifestyle and plateware (no paper plates, please!)—Stacy cited Izzy’s dishonesty about his credit history as a major reason she chose not to get married.Despite not saying “I do” at the altar, however, Stacy still wanted to remain in a relationship with the devastated Izzy.”We’re at different spots,” he told her. “It really breaks my heart.”As for Stacy, she was thankful to Izzy for opening her up “emotionally,” but she didn’t feel 100 percent about their future. “Fairly certain isn’t good enough for me to say yes for the rest of my life,” she explained.Izzy is now dating surgical assistant Shelby Webb.
