One year later, the house is celebrating the unofficial one-year anniversary with a collaboration between Dame Pat McGrath and house artistic-director Nicolas Ghesquière.

“Beauty has always been complementary to how I conceive a silhouette. It completes the character, the attitude, the emotion of a look,” says Ghesquière. “With La Beauté Louis Vuitton, we are extending that vision beyond the runway. It’s a way of allowing the Louis Vuitton woman to carry that expression into her everyday life.”

A study in contrasts and duality, the collaboration introduces two mini collections inspired by two canvases and two “LV women.”

“Nicolas and I have been building looks together backstage at Louis Vuitton for so many years now there is a shorthand between us — a trust and a creative cohesion. What we have created with this collection for La Beauté is the natural next step of that conversation,” explains McGrath, who is the creative director, cosmetics for Louis Vuitton.

The products, she notes, didn’t begin with a brief or suggestion. Rather, they started with a feeling.

“The same feeling we always create together backstage before a show. That is what makes it so extraordinary. It is not a collaboration in the traditional sense. It is an evolution of our partnership,” the celebrated makeup artist says.

The limited-edition range includes Monogram Dune, which features eyeshadow, lipstick and assorted small accessories such as the social media-famous Nice Beauty micro bag, in soft shades of beige and “sun-warmed” nudes.

The contrasting piece to the special release is Monogram Infrarouge, a more intense offering of black and vivid reds across products including the LV Ombres 715 Monogram Infrarouge Eyeshadow Palette and LV Baume 099 Galactic Veil Topper Lip Balm, complete with monogram accessories that feature both dominant hues.

“Infrarouge is the counterpart to Dune — fearless, high-contrast, unapologetic. She does not ask for your attention. She commands it,” says McGrath. “There is depth, drama, and the kind of boldness that is completely mesmerizing.”
