The Texas UIL softball playoffs have reached the semifinals, and the Lone Star State has its share of top-ranked contenders battling for a shot at the national title.

Three Texas teams, in fact, occupy the No. 2-4 slots in the latest edition of the MaxPreps national rankings. That includes the No. 2 Lake Creek [Montgomery] Lions, No. 3 Melissa Cardinals, and No. 4 Barbers Hill [Mt. Belvieu] Eagles. Just a few slots back are the Midway [Waco] Panthers, sitting in the No. 10 position, and the Katy Tigers at No. 14.
A national championship doesn’t appear to be in the cards for Katy, but it wouldn’t shock anybody in Texas if they go on to win the Class 6A Division II championship. They’ll take on the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Bears Thursday evening in one of that bracket’s two semifinals.
Game time is set for 8 p.m. EST/7 p.m. CST local.
