The FIFA World Cup is in full swing right now with several teams from around the world facing off in stadiums across the United States. The Argentinian Team is playing in Kansas City and Lionel Messi opened the tournament with a monumental game, scoring three goals to help Argentina beat Algeria.
This is the second win for Messi at Arrowhead. He also played at Arrowhead back in 2024 as part of Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami CF team. And with these two wins in two appearances at Arrowhead, Messi surpassed what Derek Carr accomplished in ten trips.
It became somewhat of a running job during Derek Carr’s time in the league that not only did the former longtime Raiders quarterback struggle in temps below 45 degrees, but that Arrowhead Stadium was a house of horrors for him. In nine seasons in Oakland and Las Vegas and two in New Orleans, Carr made a total of ten trips to Kansas City to face the Chiefs and in that time he managed just one win.

Four of Carr’s worst games in terms of passer rating came in games at Arrowhead. The one win in 2020 ended up becoming infamous because Jon Gruden had the bus to a victory lap around the stadium. A move that would serve as bulletin board material for the Chiefs and Derek Carr never beat them again, either at home or at Arrowhead.
