EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ — Lindsey Vonn‘s first World Cup game is going to be a good one.
The 2010 Olympic downhill champion said the final between Argentina and Spain on Sunday, July 19, is her first World Cup game.

“Just went straight to the finals. Straight to the top. It’s all downhill from here,” Vonn joked.
Vonn is no stranger to soccer, however. She’s a part-owner of the NWSL’s Utah Royals.
Vonn has been in the New York area for the last several days. She was here for the ESPYs, where she presented the Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award to Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry, and the TIME100 gala. She also made an appearance at Fanatics Fest.
Vonn got a standing ovation at the ESPYs, which came five months after the devastating crash in the downhill at the Milano Cortina Olympics. Vonn suffered a compound fracture and tibial plateau fracture in her left leg, as well as a broken right ankle, and she needed a fasciotomy to save her left leg.

Though she is able to walk on her own again, she has said it will take a year to fully recover from her injuries.
On this day, however, Vonn’s focus was squarely on soccer. Asked who she was rooting for, Vonn said she’d hoped the U.S. men’s national team could have made it this far. Or England, since she knows Jude Bellingham.
In the absence of those two, she’s rooting for Spain.
“I love Messi, but I am rooting for Spain today,” Vonn said. “The Laureus Awards are always in Madrid. And so I know some of the players.”
