BATON ROUGE – The outlook for Sam Leavitt and his ability to play this weekend has greatly improved.
LSU football‘s junior starting quarterback is listed as “questionable” to play in No. 8 LSU‘s rivalry contest against Ole Miss inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium Sept. 19. LSU head coach Lane Kiffin makes his highly-anticipated return to Oxford, Mississippi to face No. 9 Ole Miss (2-0) Saturday night (6:30 p.m. CT, ABC).

On LSU’s initial SEC injury report released Wednesday night, Leavitt was placed as “doubtful,” meaning according to the conference’s designation guidelines for the reports that a player given a doubtful tag is supposed to have roughly a 25% chance to play.

There were multiple reports out Thursday that said Leavitt was able to participate in the team’s walkthrough, one day after reportedly missing practice the day before.
Leavitt has been able to play through LSU’s first two games of the season, including last week’s 45-14 win over Louisiana Tech. The Tigers quarterback threw three first-half interceptions as he ended the night with three rushing scores to go along with 334 yards on 25 for 38 passing.

It’s important to note that Leavitt has not been ruled out for the matchup against Ole Miss.
LSU will release another injury report Friday night before releasing its final one 90 minutes before kickoff versus the Rebels on Saturday.
Through two games in Kiffin’s offensive system, Leavitt has thrown for 574 yards, two touchdowns — while rushing for five scores — which leads the team, and has four interceptions.
