Watch: Celebrities Phone Their Friends: David Spade, La La Anthony & More
No more balls in the air for La La Anthony and Carmelo Anthony.
The former couple—who were married for over a decade—settled their divorce five years after the Power actress filed to end the marriage in 2021 due to irreconcilable differences from the retired NBA all-star.
On Nov. 4, the Anthonys—who initially split in 2017 before briefly reconciling in 2018—were granted a certificate of dissolution after they each signed affidavits agreeing to the terms, according to court docs obtained by E! News.
And while sorting out child support became a non-issue as their 19-year-old son, Kiyan Carmelo Anthony, turned 18 before the divorce was finalized, a “qualified medical child support order” is still listed as pending on the docs. This order typically mandates that a child will be enrolled in a parent’s health care plan.
The divorce settlement marks the conclusion to the romance, which began in 2003 when Carmelo asked mutual friend DJ Clue to introduce him to the MTV personality. (In 2017, the former New York Knick welcomed daughter Genesis Harlo Anthony with ex Mia Angel Burks during his initial split from La La.)
And while the Brooklyn hometown heroes have sidelined their marriage for good, La La previously looked back on how she believes public scrutiny contributed to their breakup, calling the pressure of the spotlight “really hard.”
“When we lived here [in New York] under all of that, that’s when things became complicated,” she shared on Call Her Daddy in 2022. “Now that I look back, that was kind of the start of the demise of the marriage.”

Still, in this new era of their relationship—Carmelo is dating model Racquel Smith, meanwhile La La has been romantically linked to Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and entrepreneur Bear Da Prince—both parents remain focused on co-parenting.
“At the end of the day, the center of everything is Kiyan,” La La told E! News in 2023. “We want to show Kiyan that his parents love each other and we’re a family. We want to be good representations of that to Kiyan.”
