HOMESTEAD — NASCAR’s 2026 season comes to a close this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway and what could have been an exciting finish has turned into an inevitable crowning.
Kyle Larson needs only a 28th-place finish – worth 9 points – to win his second consecutive NASCAR Cup Series title and third overall.

As far as the only drivers with a mathematical chance of catching Larson, second-place Christopher Bell trails Larson by 67 points and Larson is 70 points ahead of Denny Hamlin in the Cup chase, which returned to its old format this year. Of course, one of them would not only have to win and hope for bonus points, but also rely on Larson running into serious trouble during the race.

The Hendricks Motorsports driver who inherited Jimmie Johnson’s team in 2021 would become the first repeat champion since Johnson, who captured five straight crowns from 2006 to 2010 in Miami.
Practice is Friday, qualifying on Saturday and the green flag drops on Sunday at 3:13 p.m.
