    Watch: King Charles III Addresses Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s Royal Status After Move Back to U.K.

    King Charles III is setting the record straight.

    After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle—who stepped back from their duties as senior royals and relocated to California in 2020—returned to the United Kingdom for extended stay with their kids Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, the 77-year-old confirmed that there is “no change to the current status of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”

    “Their styles as His and Her Royal Highness remain in abeyance and are not used,” Lord Chamberlain Richard Benyon wrote in a letter sent to multiple outlets Sept. 7, noting that “The King has directed that the following information be shared.”

    “The charitable work of the Duke and Duchess is a personal matter for them both and undertaken in their private capacity,” he continued. “In short, their position is akin to private citizens with commercial and charitable interests.”

    Elsewhere in the memo, Benyon—who has been serving as the head of the Royal Household since 2024—reiterated that Harry, 41, and Meghan, 45, “stepped down from undertaking representative duties on behalf of The Sovereign, and are no longer working Members of The Royal Family.”

    He added, “This position, distinct from the State and Royal duties undertaken by the working Royal Family, and with the personal latitude it brings the couple in respect of financial independence and protection of their privacy as they would wish, will continue to be fully respected.”

    Harry and Meghan arrived in England with their children on Aug. 26, one week after news broke of the family’s plans to return to the U.K. At the time, E! News confirmed that the couple and their kids are only planning to stay for an extended period of time, while Meghan’s mom Doria Ragland remains in Los Angeles.

    Archie and Lilibet have been enrolled in a British school for the time being, according to multiple outlets.

    While neither Harry or Meghan have publicly spoken about their move, they had been vocal about maintaining their kids’ privacy and their desires to shield them from British tabloids. As Meghan told The Cut in 2022, she has “a problem” with the idea of her children’s school pickup and drop-offs turning into a royal photo call.

    “That doesn’t make me obsessed with privacy,” she said. “That makes me a strong and good parent protecting my child.”

    King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV Dies at 34After taking the throne in 1995 at just 3 years old following the death of his father, King Rukidi tragically died Aug. 27 at the age of 34. “It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I announce the passing of His Majesty the Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, at approximately 10:00 p.m. this evening,” Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki wrote in a statement. “This is an immeasurable loss for the Royal Family, the people of Tooro, and the nation of Uganda.”

    Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Plan Extended Stay in the U.K.Six years after they stepped away from royal duties and moved to California, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are packing up for what E! News has learned will be an extended stay in the U.K.While it’s not a permanent move, the couple will be enrolling their children Archie and Lilibet in school in Britain this fall, according to People, which also reported that the Sussexes are hanging onto their Montecito, Calif., estate and vacation retreat in Portugal.

    Princess Irene of Greece Dies at 83The Greek royal family’s private office announced Jan. 15 that Queen Sofia of Spain’s sister died at the age of 83. As the statement read, “It is with deep sadness that the Greek Royal Family announces that HRH Princess Irene, beloved sister and aunt, passed away on Thursday, January 15th 2026, at 11:40 local time, in Zarzuela Palace in Madrid surrounded by loved ones.”Her funeral was held Jan. 19 at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Athens following her death, with the burial at the Royal Cemetery of Tatoi.
