The Miami Heat have had a tremendous summer. After a disappointing end to the 2025-26 season, the Heat appear to be in a position to bounce back following some remarkable signings. But could the franchise be looking for another upgrade?
Miami has already made significant improvements to its roster with the additions of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Klay Thompson, and a handful of other noteworthy signings. Still, given the quality of competition in the East this year, one could argue that the Heat could benefit from more depth.

For the most part, the Heat have been linked with guards to address their backcourt depth issues behind Davion Mitchell. However, according to some sources, a reunion with former Heat forward Kevin Love may be on the cards. Sports Illustrated’s Tom Dierberger elaborated on his prediction, writing:
“His playing time was limited and his production even more so—not at all a surprise for a 38-year-old forward with this many miles on his legs. Love seems like a great hang (especially on the golf course), but his days of being an effective NBA player are well in the rearview mirror.”
“Of course, his complete willingness to embrace being an end-of-bench locker room voice in Utah means he can still offer something of value to interested teams. Chemistry is a key component of professional sports. Nevertheless, Love should wind up on a roster for next season if he wants. Every team can use a good locker room guy. Prediction: signs with the Heat for veteran minimum.”
The Sporting News’ Hunter Cookston also highlighted the benefits of recruiting Love in his article, adding:

“The veteran could be valuable on a team with a mix of established stars and younger players. In Miami, he could bring a wealth of experience while also helping challenge players such as Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo in practice. More than anything, Love’s voice and championship experience are qualities that teams can benefit from having around.”
As Dierberger mentioned, Love’s days of being a reliable contributor may be behind him. But purely as a locker room leader with championship experience, along with his familiarity with the Heat organization, one could argue that Kevin Love could be a solid addition to Miami’s roster on a minimum deal.
But is this a worthwhile move for Miami?
Even at this stage in his career, Kevin Love has value as a minimum signing. Having averaged 6.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while shooting 39.7% from the field and 37.3% from three-point range last season, Love is still capable of rebounding the ball and spacing the floor with his shooting.

While these are promising qualities for a team like the Heat, which is in dire need of more perimeter threats, adding Kevin Love may not align with their plans.
As things stand, Miami has a greater need for a backup point guard. While Davion Mitchell is set to embrace a larger role in the rotation, the lack of a reliable playmaker in the second unit may force Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo to play more minutes. This would be largely detrimental to the team’s championship push in the long run.
A reunion with Miami may not be on the cards for Kevin Love either. Although the forward has been a part of the Heat organization, rumors suggest that he is instead interested in returning to his former team, the Minnesota Timberwolves.
For the most part, leaving the 15th roster spot open to make key signings later in the campaign could also be considered a viable course of action. Still, this implies that the Heat will keep their eyes peeled for potential targets on the market later in the season.
