ALLIANCE — Virginia, here they come.
Mount Union’s historic softball season will end at the finish line in the NCAA Division III College World Series. The Purple Raiders swept a doubleheader from Massachusetts-Dartmouth 5-2 and 4-1 on May 21 to win the best-of-three super regional and advance to the World Series for the first time.

The Purple Raiders (35-7) scored all their runs in the first game in the fifth inning. Grace Bates tied the game at 2-2 with a two-run single. Bates and McKayla Miller scored the go-ahead runs on an error. A wild pitch brought home Kaitlyn Culver.
Winning pitcher Kendyll Cahill threw a complete game in the opener for Mount Union.
Cahill’s two-run home run in the fourth inning gave the Purple Raiders a 2-0 lead in the second game. After Massachusetts-Dartmouth cut the lead in half, Mount Union’s Lydia Brunner hit a two-run triple in the sixth to stretch the lead.
Cahill threw another complete game in the second game. She allowed no earned runs and three hits.

The College World Series is set for May 28-June 3 in Salem, Viriginia.
