Watch: Keke Palmer Mourns Death of Ex-Boyfriend Brandon in Heartbreaking Tribute
Keke Palmer is remembering one of her first loves.
The Nope actress shared a heartbreaking tribute following the death of her ex-boyfriendBrandon on May 23, which his sister confirmed was due to complications from his sickle cell anemia.
“I found out last night,” Keke began in her May 28 Instagram post. “I think I was in shock.”
The 32-year-old recalled how she and Brandon met on MySpace after her friend told her about the platform and especially about “the fine boy that would pick up his little brother from school.”
It was there that they formed a virtual bond.
“We became friends,” Keke continued. “Basically pen pals until one day I told my parents I loved you haha and begged them to let us meet.”
The ‘Burbs actress—who shares son Leodis, 3, with ex DariusJackson—recalled sharing her “first real kiss” with Brandon in his backyard, as well as the times he would take her to bible school, their trip to the movies and “all the parties your mom would host.”
“I can’t believe you are gone. I cannot believe sickle cell took you from us,” Keke said. “Over the last few years I kept saying, I gotta go see Brandon. I gotta see what he’s up to. I’m so sad I didn’t get to see you one last time.”
The Baby, This is Keke Palmer host also shared a picture of Brandon and herself from her Sweet 16. As she noted, while he was “always so shy” he still managed to get “so much attention.”
“I miss you and I pray for your family and I am deeply saddened by the minutes as I realize what we lost,” she wrote. “Rest in Peace my friend and thank you for being there for me when I had no one.”
“Also. Little you would be proud of me, I finally told people how truly hard it has been for me to be happy,” Keke added. “Thank you for giving my sadness a place to land.”
The Emmy winner then urged her followers to “tell people you love them,” lamenting that “you never know when you won’t get another chance.”
