The Indianapolis Colts made waves across the NFL on Tuesday, Oct. 27, when they traded organizational mainstay Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks and later dealt veteran defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the San Francisco 49ers.
That has left Ayanna Taylor “spiraling” as she awaits word on what may be next for herself and her husband, Colts running back Jonathan Taylor.

Ayanna Taylor took to social media to express both her shock at the Nelson trade and her apprehension about what lies ahead as the Colts navigate an organizational rebuild.
“Is literally anyone safe on this team? I’ve never known the Colts organization without these people,” Taylor said, referencing the Nelson trade and the firing of decade-long general manager Chris Ballard. “It kinda feels like rookie year all over again.”
“So, naturally, my mind is spiraling,” Taylor added. “Is this the start of a trading frenzy? What does this mean for my husband and I? Do I need to start packing our bags? Are we even going to be spending our daughter’s first Halloween together? Will we make it to game day or was last week the last time my husband is putting on a Colts jersey?”
Jonathan Taylor has been the subject of trade rumors with many wondering whether the Colts would be willing to part with the seventh-year running back. The 27-year-old has starred for the team since being a second-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, leading the NFL in rushing yards in 2021 and twice leading the league in rushing touchdowns.

Taylor would likely fetch a solid price on the trade market, as running back-needy contenders could consider paying a premium for his services. That’s why Ayanna Taylor is anxiously awaiting a resolution as the NFL’s Nov. 10 trade deadline draws nearer.
“Here’s the thing: In the NFL, your life can literally change with one phone call or, apparently, one post,” Taylor said. “Sometimes you find out when you’re running errands on a random Tuesday.”

Taylor also noted how difficult it was to deal with some of the offseason trades the Colts executed, specifically mentioning the team trading Michael Pittman Jr. to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Zaire Franklin to the Green Bay Packers.

“Something that people may not realize about the NFL is, yes, you understand that changes come with it,” she said. “For years, I’ve been surrounded by the same women. Our husbands work together. We build friendships and we’ve just grown up in the league together.”
So, regardless of what happens with her husband, Taylor knows the situation surrounding the Colts has changed. And like many Indianapolis fans, she has questions about what’s next for the organization as it navigates its first rebuild under Carlie Irsay-Gordon.
“But seriously, what are we going to do without Quenton Nelson?” Taylor pondered.
