Jon Sumrall cited a lack of identity on the field that hindered the Florida Gators in their 23-7 loss to the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday afternoon.

Sumrall is going through his first year as the Gators’ head coach. He is coming off an incredible stint with the Tulane Green Wave, having led them to the College Football Playoffs in 2025.

Despite a great 4-0 start to the season, Florida has since regressed throughout SEC action. They have lost four of their last five games, suffering another disappointing display on the offensive side of the ball. Sumrall reflected on the loss after the game, believing that the identity hasn’t been the same as it was to begin the campaign.

“I think early in the year, there were some things that you could see were our identity. Right now, we feel a little bit lost, and I don’t really know that I can pinpoint what I know that we’re good at day in day out. There’s going to be tough games, but you have to be able to know, hey, this is what we’re good at, and this is how we’re going to hang in the game. And right now, we don’t have that identity clear enough offensively, which is frustrating,” Sumrall said, per reporter Chandler Dantzler.

Jon Sumrall and the Florida Gators need one more win to secure bowl eligibility. However, it won’t be this weekend as they couldn’t keep up with Oklahoma at home.

Oklahoma controlled the game from start to finish. They did an excellent job containing Florida’s attack, only conceding a touchdown in the second quarter.

Trammell Jones had a brutal day leading the offense. He only completed 10 out of 22 passes for 133 yards and two interceptions. Jadan Baugh led rushers with eight carries for 35 yards and a touchdown, while Duke Clark caught four passes for 70 yards.

The Gators will look to bounce back in their next matchup, being on the road. They take on the Kentucky Wildcats in Week 11 as kickoff commences on Nov. 14.
