Watch: John Goodman Puts 200-Lb. Weight Loss Transformation on Display
John Goodman is checking out a fresh new look after a major lifestyle transformation.
The Monsters, Inc. actor put his 200-lb. weight loss on display in a new selfie alongside Wizards of Waverly Place alum David DeLuise.
In the photo shared to Instagram Aug. 6, Goodman smiled with DeLuise wearing a denim long-sleeved button down as the pair stood in the cracker aisle of a grocery store.
“He was my childhood!!” DeLuise wrote in the caption. “Legend! I love that I get to say that to someone 😉 if you know you know.”
Though Goodman, 74, has kept mostly out of the spotlight in recent years, he has remained a household name since rising to popularity in the ‘80s as Rosanne Barr’s onscreen husband Dan Conner on Roseanne.
But after starring in cult classics like The Flintstones in 1994 and The Big Lebowski in 1998, he kicked his sobriety journey into high gear in 2007 and addressed what he believed was causing his addiction to food and alcohol.
“You’re trying to fill a hole that can’t be filled unless it’s filled with goodness,” he told ABC News in 2016, “some kind of spirituality, not saying religion, but just a belief in something higher than yourself, a purpose.”
The Righteous Gemstones star added, “Instead of filling it with booze or cocaine or food, you just acknowledge that it’s there. You can’t fill it. And you go on and live with it.”

And since beginning his physical transformation—confirming in 2023 that he had lost a total of 200 pounds—Goodman has been candid about how he keeps the weight off.
“I just stopped eating all the time,” he continued. “I’d have a handful of food, and it’d go to my mouth. I was just eating alcoholically. In the old days, I would take three months out, lose 60 or 70 pounds, and then reward myself with a six-pack of Bud or whatever and just go back to my old habits.”

Now, his active lifestyle is part of his everyday life.
“I’m getting to the age where I can’t afford to sit still anymore,” added the actor, 63 at the time. “I just got tired, sick and tired of looking at myself. You’re shaving in the mirror and you don’t want to look at yourself. It gets dangerous.”
