Watch: Joe Jonas Details “Crash and Burn” Audition for The Morning Show
Joe Jonas knows better than anyone that we’re only human.
In fact, the Jonas Brothers member proved that even major stars have off days while revealing an audition that didn’t quite go to plan.
“I was auditioning for,” he began during the brothers’ Hey Jonas podcast, prompting Nick Jonas to guess, “Wicked? Spider-Man?”
To which Joe replied, “We don’t need to name all the things I didn’t get,” though at the same time Kevin Jonas quipped, in true brother fashion, “Those are two of them.”
As it turns out, the audition in question was for The Morning Show, which stars Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston and Bily Crudup.
“Long story short,” the middle Jonas continued, “I show up early, and they did this thing, which was very kind, they’re like, ‘Oh, we have a private room for you.’ And this is the saddest room you can imagine.”
Joe continued, “And I could hear, clear as day, all the guys auditioning. And these guys were crushing it.”
In contrast, the 36-year-old’s attempt to land a role on the Apple TV+ show wasn’t quite up to par.
“I go in,” Joe recalled, “And I just crash and burn.”

And after Nick—who has starred in onscreen projects over the years including the new movie Power—assured his elder brother that “bad auditions happen,” he asked whether Joe would count The Morning Show as his worst audition.
Instead, the DNCE singer named one of the aforementioned projects as one that didn’t quite defy gravity.
“I think Wicked was a bit of a strange one,” he explained. “Because there was like incredible theater vocalists I could hear, clear as day.”
But not one to leave his brother in the lurch, Nick recalled an audition where he met with what he thought was just the movie’s producer, only to learn he was also the director in real-time.

“So, I went into the meeting and started talking about the film and what the take was going to be,” the 33-year-old said. “I asked him, ‘Oh and who’s directing?’ And his response was, ‘Well, me.’”
“I wanted to die inside at that moment,” Nick said. “I did die inside.”
Even Kevin had a horror story, dating back to when the trio were younger.
“The guy that was auditioning me said to me in the room, ‘Maybe we try it a different way ‘cause I can clearly tell that you don’t have any acting experience,’” the 38-year-old said. “I was like, ‘Tough.’”
But the JoBros aren’t the only actors to have tried to nail roles that ultimately went to other actors. Read on for more.
