Jodie Sweetin Reveals She & Bob Saget Survived a Drive-By Shooting

Even Jodie Sweetin couldn’t predict this harrowing incident.

The Full House star revealed that she and late costar Bob Saget survived a drive-by shooting “back in the late ‘80s, early ‘90s” while on their way to a Janet Jackson concert.

“We were parked outside of Edge of Epics going to that Janet Jackson concert,” Sweetin recounted during a ’90s Con panel with castmates Candace Cameron Bure, Lori Loughlin, John Stamos, Dave Coulier, Andrea Barber and Scott Weinger Oct. 18. “We were sitting in the car and like the window exploded. We were like, ‘Oh!”

While she and Saget were uninjured, the suspect “shot the window out of the car” and “ran off,” leaving the actress and her onscreen dad having to “wait for two station wagon taxis—because this is pre-Uber—to come and get us.”

“And then Bob had to drive me home and explain to my mom what happened,” Sweetin continued, joking that between the shooting and Saget’s history of sneaking her into the Laugh Factory, the comedian was “not always my mom’s favorite.”

“It’s one of those like, ‘Did that actually happen?’” the 44-year-old said. “I was there and I doubt that it happened, but it actually did.”

Still, Sweetin still holds that memory of Saget—who died at 65 in 2022 after suffering head trauma in a fall—close to her heart.

“Bob’s just glad we’re all still talking about him,” she told the restof the cast. “Really, truly. Bob just loves to know that he’s still the main topic of conversation. He is the best in ways.”

In fact, Saget’s warmth and protective nature eventually shaped Sweetin’s her real-life approach to parenting to daughters Zoie, 18, and Beatrix, 16, who she shares with exes Cody Herpin and Morty Coyle, respectively.

“When I think back on it, I remember Bob just being really inclusive of his kids. He didn’t talk to them like they were idiots—and he did the same with me,” Sweetin shared during a 2022 appearance on Conversations With Olivia Jade. “He treated me with respect as a young person.”

She added, “I understood that, when I had kids, you can joke with them and have real conversations.”
