The New York Jets got some bad news early in the week when it was reported that star wide receiver Garrett Wilson was going into concussion protocol.

His status for Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs was very much in doubt following this update. But even after not practicing on Wednesday or Thursday, he had a chance to suit up if things went well on Friday.
Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, and as the Jets announced Friday morning, Wilson is now going to miss Week 9 as he deals with a concussion.
“Aaron Glenn said Garrett Wilson and Trevin Wallace will not play Sunday against the Chiefs,” the Jets announced Friday.
This news was expected after multiple days without practice for Wilson. Concussion protocol is very hard to clear in the same week a player goes on it.

While he has a good chance to clear it for Week 10 when the Jets face off against the Buffalo Bills, Wilson will not be playing against the Chiefs in Week 9.

In his place, rookie WR Omar Cooper Jr. and breakout receiver Adonai Mitchell are set to take over this offense. Geno Smith is getting Breece Hall back, but will be without Wilson facing a tough Chiefs defense.
Kansas City has been great at slowing down wide receivers this season, so Mitchell and Cooper will have their hands full trying to piece together a big day against this Chiefs team coming off back-to-back losses.

Wilson is going to miss Week 9, as expected, following his placement in concussion protocol after Week 8’s loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.
