Watch: Jerry O’Connell Poses With Wife Rebecca Romijn’s Ex John Stamos 2 Years After Public Feud
Jerry O’Connell doesn’t stand by his birth name.
In fact, the Stand By Me alum shared that no one in his life calls him by his legal moniker, including his own family.
“Well, my real name is Michael Jeremiah O’Connell,” Jerry shared during a joint appearance with his mom Linda O’Connell on the May 8 episode of Live with Kelly & Mark. “But I was always Jerry.”
His mother agreed, clarifying to host Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos that the 52-year-old’s “real name is Michael Jeremiah Witkowski O’Connell.”
“His grandfather is Jeremiah,” explained Linda, whose maiden name is Witkowski, “and our favorite cousin is Jerry DeScipio.”
But she never referred to Jerry by his full name at home—even at times when he crossed her.
“No, I was always a Jerry,” the Kangaroo Jack actor remarked. “Sometimes I look at myself, and I go, ‘yeah, I am a Jerry.’ I don’t look like a Michael, actually.”
Indeed, Jerry was quite the mischief-maker as a kid. As Linda put it, “He was very active, very energetic and always in trouble.”
“I believe the term was ‘hyperactive,’” he added. “I don’t know if they use it anymore and I’m sorry if anyone’s offended by that.”
Jerry’s penchant for performing would, of course, soon turn into a notable career in entertainment, making his acting debut in 1986’s Stand By Me. Twenty-one years after the movie became a classic, Jerry married fellow actor Rebecca Romijn.
During his appearance on Live with Kelly & Mark, Jerry also made sure to give a Mother’s Day shoutout to his wife, with whom he shares 17-year-old twins Charlie Tamara Tulip and Dolly Rebecca Rose.

And in a funny twist of fate, Jerry has admittedly “turned into [his] mother” when it comes to dating advice.
“My girls are 17 right now, and so, a lot of their friends are getting very steady,” he shared. “I sit them down, and I’m like, ‘Girls, you gotta play the field. You can’t just go out with one.’”
He added, “I see their friends who are in like relationships and they sort of don’t have fun anymore.”
But Jerry is not the only celeb who uses a stage name. Read on for more stars who’ve switched monikers.
