The Philadelphia 76ers star playfully pitched himself for a future movie role during a conversation with two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali for The Hollywood Reporter. Their exchange came after Ali explained how his basketball experience prepared him to become an actor.
Ali played four collegiate seasons at Saint Mary’s College before entering New York University’s graduate acting program. He said team sports taught him discipline, preparation, sacrifice, integrity, and how to serve something larger than himself.

“I would actually say you would be better prepared as an actor if you’ve had some real serious background in team sports,” Ali said.

Brown quickly recognized an opening.
“Well, I got some background in playing ball,” Brown responded. “So what I’m hearing is that for the next movie that you produce … I got a shot.”
“You got a shot,” Ali replied.
Brown then looked to lock in the unofficial agreement, saying, “Y’all heard it here first.”
The lighthearted moment followed Brown’s praise of Ali’s playing style. Brown said he watched old footage of the actor competing for Saint Mary’s before their conversation and came away impressed by his intensity.

According to Brown, Ali defended hard, played both ends, and competed without worrying about looking cool or making friends. Ali laughed as Brown described him as someone willing to drive his shoulder through an opponent’s chest.
Ali did not attach the offer to a specific project or timetable. Still, his endorsement gave Brown a memorable opening if he ever adds acting to his growing list of pursuits away from the NBA.
