    Watch: Jason Sudeikis’ ‘Ted Lasso’ Paycheck Revealed Ahead of Season 4

    Ted Lassofans may not believe how much Jason Sudeikiswas paid. 

    Ahead of the highly-anticipated fourth season of the Apple TV series—which premieres Aug. 5—the 50-year-old revealed the amount of money he was paid per episode during the previous season.

    As the co-creator and star was getting ready to wind down the show in 2023, he was earning $1 million per episode—with the possibility for more if he agreed to continue the series for future seasons. But at the time, he didn’t see the need to keep Ted Lasso going beyond its original three-season arc, despite the temptation of an even bigger paycheck. 

    “That wasn’t a negotiation tactic,” Sudeikis told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published July 23. “The story was told. Ted went home [to Kansas City] to be with his son. I wasn’t going to have Ted uproot their life to justify the money truck. It made no sense to me.”

    But the Saturday Night Live alum eventually found a storyline worth returning to. This time around, Ted Lasso (Sudeikis) will head back to England to coach AFC Richmond’s all-female team, accompanied by familiar faces including Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham), Keeley Jones (Juno Temple), Coach Beard (co-creator Brendan Hunt) and Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein). 

    “Welcome back, Coach,” one AFC Richmond fan tells Ted in the April 28 teaser. “Too bad you’re coaching a bunch of girls, ya wanker.”

    While Sudeikis may have been hesitant to return at times, the rest of the cast were eager to return to the pitch, although the process wasn’t without its challenges.

    For her part, Waddingham felt “nervous about not wanting to do it a disservice, this beautiful thing.” Meanwhile, Temple added that she had struggled with “wondering if you’d be good enough, and if you can remember how to do it.” 

    Although the details of this upcoming season are relatively sparse—beyond the additions of Tanya Reynolds, Tracy Ullman, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey and Abbie Hern—the Horrible Bosses actor had given fans a peek at what was to come when he first announced the season. 

    “As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap,” Sudeikis teased in a 2025 press release, “in season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”
