Watch: Jamie Lee Curtis Breaks Down Honoring “Beloved Meathead” Rob Reiner During Emmys In Memoriam
Jamie Lee Curtis is holding Jake Reiner and Romy Reiner close as they continue to navigate their family tragedy.
Nearly one year after Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were murdered in their Los Angeles home, The Bear alum—a longtime friend of the family—shed light on her bond with the late couple’s kids as they continue to grieve the loss of their parents.
“Of course, I mean, we are family,” Jamie shared in an interview with Extra published Nov. 6 of her bond with Romy, 28, and Jake, 35. “Something like this brings people so much closer.”
“Jake and I were sitting shoulder-to-shoulder doing an interview,” she continued, “and just feeling him there is emotional, and then of course him talking about his parents and their fantastic relationship.”
It’s been over 10 months since Rob and Michele were found dead in their Brentwood, Calif., home on Dec. 14.
In July, the couple’s 32-year-old son Nick Reiner was indicted by a grand jury for their murders, with the grand jury alleging that he intentionally killed his parents by means of lying in wait with “a deadly or dangerous weapon”—in this case a knife.
He has pleaded not guilty on two counts of murder with the special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder by means of lying in wait, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman.
And while Rob—who also shared daughter Tracy Reiner, 62, with ex Penny Marshall—and Michele were cremated a week after their tragic deaths, their loved ones have yet to gather in a public setting as they continue to mourn.
“There hasn’t been a big public memorial yet,” Jamie told Extra, “and so we’re all grieving.”
Yet, the Freaky Friday actress has made sure to honor Rob’s legacy on the world’s stage.
In fact, Jamie paid tribute to the late “cherished legend” during the 2026 Emmys In Memoriam segment in September, getting emotional as she highlighted Rob’s achievements, including winning a posthumous Emmy for his work on The Bear.

“He now holds the record of 48 years for the longest gap between acting Emmys, which was previously held by his father Carl Reiner at 37 years,” the Halloween alum shared. “He was generous and kind, and funny as hell, and a friend to all. And we all miss Rob and Michele.”
While looking back at her heartfelt tribute, Jamie—mom to kids Annie and Ruby with husband Christopher Guest—shared insight into her decades-long bond with the family.
“I’m obviously a close friend of theirs; we got married at Rob’s house on Dec. 18, 1984. Rob was the best man,” she recalled to The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published Oct. 23. “My late sister Kelly was my maid of honor. So we are close. Rob is our daughter Annie’s godfather. When Michele married Rob, she and Rob became my daughter’s godparents. We have a closeness, of course.”
As Jamie put it, “What I’m trying to say is that I felt a responsibility to represent everyone—strangers, fans, colleagues, friends, close friends and family—in that moment at the Emmys.”
